It takes a while but it does work. I had a rake for the fur and I would say that this is a good addition to it. If you have a large beast with tons of long hair, you'll find that it doesn't go very deep into it and that's where a rake comes in handy. The furminator does do a great job on the top coats and especially where the dog has shorter hair.
