I purchased this product for my 1 year old (adopted) Rottweiler. He left hair (a lot!) everywhere. He also had dry flaky skin, like dandruf. I had used my old hoop shaped deshedding tool and I thought I had gotten off as much fur as I could. When the Furminator arrived I took him out side and brushed away. I must have removed enough fur to fill half of a 5 gallon bucket. It also brough to the surface quite a lot of dry flaky skin. I had tried special shampoos, and changed his diet to a Salmon based all natural product, with out much results. The next week I used the Furminator again, this time I removed lighter (gray, not black fur) and more dry skin. He now has a much more normal appearance, and his dry skin (dandruff has disappeared.
