I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy and he sheds. It is especially heavy now as he's changing his puppy coat on an adult one. I use the furminator on him every 3-4 days and with enough patience (you know how much fun it is trying to brush a hyper puppy) it gets enormous amounts of loose hair. Works way better than a regular slicker brush, about 5 times the hair in one stroke. I still use the brush after that to pick up the fuzz. Watch out for it, it will be all over the place.

This seemed like the perfect thing, until we started using it on our corgi and he yelps and growls in pain every time. My cat has been treated to brushes, flea combs, people combs, everything I could try to get the loose fur off of him. The ones that he enjoyed did not do a good job, and the ones that did a decent job were painful to him, tugging out hair by clumps.

My furminator (small version, blue head) came in, and in one evening I pulled a wad of fur off my cat, that was about the same volume as a half gallon milk jug. The cat only complained when I caught one of the hair knots he had been accumulating. This only took about a half hour's worth of furminating, including taking little breaks when the cat would wander off for a bit.

I would suggest preparing by laying out a large beach towel... loose wads of fur will tumble everywhere. Have a vacuum (shop vac!) ready to clean off your towel.

The tool feels heavier in the hand than other pet brushes. It's heavy enough to give a solid feel, but is not at all unwieldy. The shaping on the grip is very nice, and should be good with both bare and gloved hands. The T-grip is much easier to use than a straight brush or comb. In fact, it is easy to use the same way, simply by laying the grip into the fingers and controlling the T with the thumb.
