Finding a brush that will "get into" the tight smooth hair on my Pug puppy has been a challenge. After purchasing three other brushes including a mitt type, that all just skimmed over the top and didn't comb/brush the hair I purchased the Small Blue FURminator. At first I didn't like it because using this brush is different than using a regular brush. I found that taking smaller strokes in the direction the hair grows brought results. Apply gentle pressure, using this brush is more time consuming, but it does remove the hair a little at a time and when finished the hair is very soft compared to the tight wiry texture of my Pug at the beginning of the grooming. I have also found it is necessary with my puppy to brush her several time a week to keep her almost shed free.

This it the best brush. I have a large white/ yellow lab, Teddy. I was looking for a better shedding tool and came around this one, it works great, the first time we brushed Teddy it took off a ton of hair. I am very impressed with the FURminator. Before I purchased this, I watched several videos and read reviews - the FURminator really works as well as they say it does. I loathe the old slicker brush because after 2 or 3 passes I have to stop and pull all the fur out; so that's always a long process and doesn't have excellent results. My husky and husky mix shed a ton and there's always fur everywhere (seriously, it gets in places you wouldn't think possible). So after they were both brushed I bagged up all the fur that wouldn't be floating around the house. And their coats look wonderful, no little tufts of hair sticking out.
And I was thrilled to pay $17 for something that normally costs $50. At that price for a dog brush, I don't think I would have given it a second glance.

The Furminator has made my life incredibly easier. I have a short-haired Red Heeler mutt who sheds an absolutely ridiculous amount of fur. RIDICULOUS. It has been about a month now since the Furminator blessed my life. I sweep twice a week instead of four times. When the beast shakes or people give him a good scratch-down, little furballs don't erupt from his coat. Although the "Cedar" microfiber dusting mop helps (from Target, but there are tons on the market), I give the ol' Furminator a lot of credit for my new ability to walk around in socks without looking like Big Foot.

I Furminate him almost every day, and I still usually pull off about 1/4 cup of fur if I really get into it. That's 1/4 cup of fur we don't have sticking to our clothes or hiding under the couch. I've already given one of these away, and I plan to give more.

I bought the FURminator because I have a long-haired cat that always sheds the tiniest undercoat furs that end up blowing around my apartment. When I received the product I wasn't sure how the cat was going to like it but I held her down on her side and combed her fur with this tool. I was very surprised at how fine-toothed the comb was and learned that I needed to press down a little more to get through my cat's long fur.

I was very PLEASANTLY surprised! I bought one of these shortly after adopting an old dog from the pound. Keller (the poor old girl) was a mess. Heartworms, broken tail, mostly deaf, partly blind, and sad. Her coat was a mess. I doubt she'd ever really been brushed before, actually. When we got her, she had tufts of undercoat sticking out (you could lightly pull them and get a wad of fur) and her fur was just dull and felt wrong. My husband and I were also having allergen issues with her, something we've never had with any of our dogs before. Even after a bath and brushing with a shedding tool, her coat was a mess. On a friend's advice, I bought the medium FURminator.

The first night I used it, I got most of a plastic grocery bag of fur off of her. (This was in January, so I quit when I got to the point where I couldn't take the static electricity any more. I was plastered with dog hair - not the brush's fault!) I brushed her every other night for about week. Her coat improved drastically. It took about two more months (and two more baths), but my husband and I no longer get rashes after petting her. Our vet said she looked like a different dog! (Keller ignored us and our other dog for the first couple of months we had her. She turned 15 in April and now behaves like a normal dog - she plays, barks, and lets us love on her.)

I have a beagle mix, too, with shorter hair. Tippy doesn't have the major undercoat that Keller has, but I use the FURminator on her as well. The hard part is keeping her from rolling over because she wants me to use it on her tummy. Tippy's got spots on her back legs that shed a lot and it works wonders there.

I only wish I'd had this product when we had our Labrador! I could spend a week brushing her with a regular dog brush and not get half the fur off that I could in 10 minutes with the FURminator.

It's probably not the best for a dog with a single coat (like smooth coat terriers), but I highly recommend this to anyone who has a dog with a double coat.

We got this for our 10-month old Yellow Lab. My wife HATES having fur around the house, but LOVES dogs and especially wanted a lab because of their temperament. I've been working in a dog boarding/grooming kennel for almost five years now, and I must say that the Furminator is probably the best deshedding tool on the market. It works well on all coat types, even long-haired dogs, but it's ideal for dogs with short to medium length coats with downy undercoats; German Shepherds, Corgis, Labrador Retrievers, etc. I've also used it on a Spitz to great effect when combined with a deeper-reaching undercoat rake.

It may not work perfectly on thicker areas of long-haired breeds, such as the haunches or neck/shoulder areas of Golden Retrievers, for instance, but it will help loosen surface hair even in those areas.
