Ok, this thing seems to work but I've come to the conclusion it really doesn't. What it does, I think, is CUT the hair--leaving plenty of hair ready to shed (i.e. pulled out by a regular brush or comb). I have a Border Collie mix, with medium to long hair. She sheds horribly and hates to be brushed or combed. The Furminator is no exception but I think it is painless in every way (meaningly no better or worse than regular brushing). However, as I stated above, it cuts the hair but doesn't necessarily remove shedding hair.
