We went from vaccuuming every other day to once a week during shedding season for 2 German Shepherds. It takes about 20-30 mins on the initial brush, and you should be sure you do it in an area that is easy to clean after being covered in hair! It doesn't seem to hurt the animals, unless you are using it to yank on a very dense spot, in which case you should go gently with short strokes anyway.
